Imagine being part of a circle, a safe space where you can tell the truth without fear of judgment, criticism, or rejection. A place where your heart softens and you feel accepted and accepting. A place where you feel free to share your feelings, work through conflicts, share your passions, what you're wanting to manifest, and know that you are not alone. Now imagine that you are 16 years old and part of a circle like this. How might your life have been different? How might this change the world? And most importantly how can you help facilitate this kind of experience for young people in your life?
The Teen Talking Circle Facilitator Training is a deeply experiential workshop for adults who are interested in being "elders" to youth by starting a Teen Talking Circle in their community, or simply creating better relationships with the teens in their lives.
Through direct experience, participants will learn the basics of being part of a Sacred Circle. You'll learn how to co-create safe space, set intentions, lead processes, and practice positive communication skills. Through time spent in circle, as well as alone, you'll hone empowering skills that contribute to taking responsibility for your judgments, decisions, and communication. You'll experience how profoundly and subtly our energies communicate messages which affect our sense of self, our relationships, and our interconnections.
The workshop will provide a container for you as an adult, to learn and practice the art of Compassionate Listening*, as we work through core issues carried from our own teen years. You'll come away with many rewards from having trusted the Circles and been true to your self.
Our intention for the workshop is to give you the tools and skills so that you can pass on this learning to young people; knowing all it takes is a commitment to your unfolding self -- the discipline to do the ongoing work of personal growth and healing -- and trust in the organic process.
Teen Talking Circles started in 1993 as the Daughters Sisters Project, under the fiscal umbrella of Context Institute, founders of In Context Magazine, now YES, A Journal of Positive Futures. As the Project grew to include more young men, our name changed. Today, there are TTC circles growing worldwide, and branch representatives in Boulder, Colorado; Seattle, Washington; Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; Lopez Island, Washington; Yelapa, Mexico, and Minneapolis, Minnesota -- with more starting each year. Join our cooperative movement. For a more information on circles and facilitators in your area, see:www.teentalkingcircles.org or contact our home office:info@teentalkingcircles.org
Speaking and Listening from the Heart is led by Linda Wolf, founder and executive director of The Teen Talking Circle Project, and co-author of Daughters of the Moon, Sisters of the Sun: Young Women and Mentors on the Transition to Womanhood and, Global Uprising: Confronting the Tyrannies of the 21st Century -- Stories from a New Generation of Activists, with the assistance of the young women and additional facilitators of local circles. Linda is a certified facilitator of Compassionate Listening*, the practice of which helps us to reach through layers of defensiveness and reactivity to be able to live more from our essential core essence and connection with source. From there, our energy in communication and relationships spread more heart-to-heart connection.
Your non-refundable deposit of $200 or full payment reserves your space in the workshop.
The greatest gift we can give another is the gift of real ourselves - our presence, our acceptance, our willingness to be with each other and work towards a sense of our interconnection and oneness, the ability to nurture sustainable relationships. From this we naturally contribute to growing cultures of peace, starting with ourselves first.
*Compassionate Listening is a service mark of the Compassionate Listening Project.

Payment: A $200 nonrefundable deposit is necessary to hold your space. Balance is due 2 weeks prior to the workshop. Hotel's are available on Bainbridge Island, but you'll need to reserve a room in advance. For those requesting scholarships we will be happy to secure a home-stay situation for you either in our own home or in a neighbor's home. Bainbridge Island is 35 minutes by ferry from Seattle. Contact us for a copy of the ferry schedule. Transportation to and from the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal is provided by workshop assistants. If you are coming from out of town, please keep in mind that it takes approximately 2 hours, depending upon ferry traffic to get to and from the workshop and the airport. RECOMMENDATION:
"Last spring was a time for me when the world looked staid, and there seemed little hope of breaking out of the box. I had one specific week I had to get away, and put that week into Google along with the word "retreat". What came up was synchronicity. A group of women from the west coast, it seemed, were gathering for a "compassionate listening circle" in a place called "Yelapa". Where?? What??
Yelapa, it turns out, is a remote fishing village accessed by tiny boats off the coast of Puerta Vallarta, and inhabited by only 1500 native residents. No cars are allowed, only donkeys who carry your provisions, and wild parakeets who carry your dreams. There are
no brick or cement houses, only "Palapas," palm frond roofs on four or more posts with maybe some bamboo walls for privacy and a sleeping loft. In your loft you are rocked to sleep under the stars accompanied by the insistent sound of the sea.
Many of these ten women knew one another, so I could have walked into an intimidating situation. But from our first circle on the very first day, Linda Wolf pulled out her bag of magic. She is a gifted facilitator with a heart as large and colorful as all of Mexico. As each of us shared our stories, why we had come, where we were in our lives, it was quickly apparent that we were making a family. A FUNCTIONAL, safe, loving family.
And the food! Yum! Linda's partner and gourmet chef du jour, Eric, took Yelapa's abundant local fare and transformed it into such happiness for our tummies. I begged him and his inner Julia Child to come home with me, but he insisted he was already previously engaged.
At night, we cranked up the music, hoola hooped, danced, giggled, became twelve again, or dressed to the nines and went on the town. We went to a waterfall in the wilderness and swam naked, we went on field trips and ate meals at the home of locals who warmly invited us in. We explored deep into Yelapa's amazing abundance. We explored deep into the mysteries of ourselves. It was a magical time. How happy I am for synchronicity.
If you find yourself wanting to get away from this world into an indescribably lush and beautiful setting, and doing something
really really unique with a week, treat yourself to one of Linda's retreats. It's the kind of time that will stay with you. One that you can call up from your heart whenever the world feels impossible and all too much to bear."
